What do cats see? can they define facial features, is it black & white?

I know they can see in the dark but can they tell who is calling them ect..mine seem short sighted!?What do cats see? can they define facial features, is it black %26amp; white?
Some articles I've read suggest that cats see everything in shades of blues and greens, whilst others say they see things in shades of grey. They rely more heavily on their sense of smell and hearing, so being able to distinguish different colours isn't a skill they particularly need for survival.

Cats are relatively short-sighted and during the day time, their vision isn't as good as ours. However, they can hear sounds that are three times as high than the ones we can. Our cats always recognise the sound of our car engine and run to the door when my husband pulls in to the car park. I feed some local strays and they know that when they hear the sound of my door keys, that it's dinner time and appear out of nowhere. Smell is definitely a strong factor in helping them recognise someone too. Often when one cat in a household has been to a vet, they arrive home to a hostile reaction from the other cat, because they don't smell familiar to them anymore.

I would definitely say it is their sense of smell and hearing that help them identify people, as blind cats manage perfectly well without being able to see their owners. What do cats see? can they define facial features, is it black %26amp; white?
They don't have clear vision like we do. They do see most colors but some are shades of grey. I can't off hand remember which ones though. A cat's vision is based more on movement than on clarity. I do think they can identify facial features to some extent. Mine seem to know who is calling or talking to them - but then they could be identifying us by our voices too, lol.
