There are lots of different things used in scrubs, pumice is one of the cheaper ones ( you may think sand lol) ground walnut is popular, as is sugar and salt, but not so much for facial scrubs. You can also get powdered pearl, very fine, oatmeal, also fine, and any number of man made scrub, such as clay beads. If the one you are thinking of is brown and pretty coarse, its probably ground nut shell of some sort...hope that helps! What is the stuff called in facial scrubs that make it ';gritty';? Is it sand? lol?
Commonly they're apricot kernels or peach pits ground up. You must be extremely gentle if you use those because they can irritate the skin and cause redness.
The best exfoliators use enzymes to loosen the dead skin cells and don't cause irritation. They are more expensive, but you can use them more often and they work beautifully. What is the stuff called in facial scrubs that make it ';gritty';? Is it sand? lol?
Different scrubs have different ingredients. Most common are ground walnut shells, ground almonds, luffa and some even use varying sizes of salt grains.
